Boys Like Girls Make Triumphant Comeback With “BLOOD AND SUGAR”

Boys Like Girls are looking a little bloodied in the new music video for their comeback single, "BLOOD AND SUGAR."

Iconic pop-rock band Boys Like Girls have made their official studio comeback with their new single, “BLOOD AND SUGAR.” The new single is the pop-rock group’s first studio release since 2012 and is the start of a full-blown return with an album planned for release in fall 2023.

A few days ago, I speculated if Boys Like Girls’ new single would be the official release of “The Outside,” a fun-filled track the band has been playing throughout select live performances. But, if you were itching for that song, the wait continues.

Alongside the release of “BLOOD AND SUGAR,” Boys Like Girls have also dropped a bloody new music video that perfectly captures the new track’s themes, creating an exciting interrogation scene instead of your usual representation of the human experience.

On the overall themes behind “BLOOD AND SUGAR,” frontman Martin Johnson explains, “Thematically, the song is fairly simple, an empty calorie relationship that’s so delicious you don’t care. You’re willing to deal with the crash. It continues to beat you down, yet you keep coming back for more pain…almost like you’ve learned to love it.

Why this obsession? We’re only skin and bone. Humans. Just blood and sugar, really. I think everyone has an infatuation with something bad for them. Cigarettes. Sporting gambling. Porn. Internet validation. Pills that change the way you feel. Buying too many shoes. I know I spend a lot of time trying to fill the empty hole where drugs used to be. I spend most of the time trying to fill that hole with “perfection.” But in the end…nobody’s perfect. Hey. We’re only blood and sugar, right?”

As previously mentioned, Boys Like Girls plan to release a new studio album later this year, so expect at least a few more releases beforehand, possibly throughout the summer season. The band also plans to hit the road for a much-anticipated tour.
