Alkaline Trio Return With Infectious New Song “Oblivion”

Alkaline Trio's first studio recording with drummer Atom Willard has been unveiled as the earworm-coded, "Oblivion."

The dark lords of punk, Alkaline Trio, have returned with their earworm-coded new song, “Oblivion.” The first of three songs produced by blink-182’s Travis Barker also happens to be the first studio recording featuring drummer Atom Willard, who joined the chaotic circus back in 2023 during the release of the band’s 10th studio album, Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs.

Speaking on the sessions, producer Travis Barker shared, “Recording with Alkaline Trio was such a treat. Bringing these songs to life from the demos Matt recorded was so exciting. Both Matt and Dan are incredible lyricists, two of my all-time favorites.”

Alongside the release of “Oblivion” across digital platforms is the release of a very thematic music video directed by Mark Eaton that further showcases the world’s chaotic elements, which perfectly match the powerhouse lyrics featured throughout the band’s new single.

Chiming in on his own experience during their sessions with Travis Barker, Matt Skiba shared, “I don’t think I’ve ever had such a great time in the studio. We’d wanted to get into the studio with Atom as soon as he’d joined the band, and we finally found the time to do it. The idea to work with Travis came to me after guesting on a project he was producing at his studio. I was blown away by how natural and amazing Travis is in the role of a producer and by the beauty and serenity of his studio.”

Following Matt Skiba’s words, Dan Andriano added, “We went into the studio thinking we’d record one new song and maybe a cover as well, ended up tracking THREE new Alkaline Trio originals! Matt’s been on fire lately, between him having so many good ideas and Travis being so easy and cool to work with, we could’ve stayed in there forever.”

Last but not least, Atom Willard stated, “For me, recording that week was like being 20 years old again. Going into the studio not knowing exactly what we were going to be doing or working on made it super fun and exciting.”

As previously mentioned, Alkaline Trio’s new song, “Oblivion,” is available now across the digital spectrum. But, you can also pick up the new release in 7-inch vinyl that features an exclusive b-side of Matt Skiba’s original demo.

Alkaline Trio will also be supporting blink-182 directly across the United States beginning on August 28. Tickets are still available, and tour dates can be found over on the band’s official website.
