Singer-songwriter Lulu Simon is turning her own personal grief into a relatable new emotional tale with her latest single, “Summer Dog.” The vocalist’s new folk-pop-inspired single brings the pain and sadness of losing her dog right to listeners with what is sure to be a relatable experience for many.
Lulu Simon’s vocal delivery sparks instant emotion as she carries listeners through her pain and grief beautifully, painting a perfect picture of pure bliss among the sadness that’ll have many coming back to sing alongside her own heartbreak.
On the topic of “Summer Dog,” Lulu Simon shares, “When I was told my dog had died – the last of my childhood pets – I was in LA and he was in New York, and in the middle of my grief… I was thinking, like, if nobody ever told me he died, then for all I knew, he was still running around and nothing had changed. It’s kind of like that “if a tree falls in the woods and nobody hears it” thing. Like, if my dog dies and nobody tells me, did my dog really die?”
Simon continues, “From there, I went down this rabbit hole, comparing nostalgia and the discomfort of change. Like, if everything stayed exactly the way you remembered it—all the stuff that made you feel comfortable when you were a kid – and then you come back as an adult, with an adult perspective, suddenly all those same things that used to bring you peace just feel weird and off. Like they don’t fit quite right anymore, even though you want them to. And then everything familiar suddenly feels unfamiliar, in this uncanny kind of way.”
Lulu Simon’s latest single, “Summer Dog,” joins her growing collection of emotive pieces that continue to get better and better with each new release. Lulu Simon continues to be one of my favorite up-and-coming artists, featuring raw feelings and truthful melodies that mix perfectly together to create a truly unique experience for the senses.
