The Academy Is… has returned with their new single, “2005,” a time machine filled with eccentric vibes that had me loosening my grasp on reality for just a little while, allowing me to groove and dance to the fun-filled soundscape that filled my office—a perfect break from reality even for just a small 4-minute romp.
Alongside the release of “2005,” The Academy Is… dropped an accompanying music video directed by Tyler Common that perfectly encapsulated the vibes I felt instantly as the sweet vocal melodies and low hum instrumentals filled my smile from ear to ear. All of this was perfectly captured through the band’s new music video. Simple yet very effective.
Following the release of their latest single, The Academy Is… has also announced their first studio album in almost 18 years, with Almost There, currently planned for release on March 27 via I Surrender Records. The band’s upcoming album acts as a direct sequel to their beloved 2005 release, Almost Here, with frontman William Beckett sharing, “Almost Here was the beginning. Almost There is the reflection. It’s about checking in with who you thought you’d be twenty years later, seeing what changed, what stuck, and what still feels like home.”
Pre-orders for The Academy Is …’s upcoming album are currently live, featuring a variety of options ranging from vinyl records to merch bundles and CDs. I Surrender Records also has available a special, signed vinyl variant limited to 500.
