pure xtc – “Fall Apart” Review: All Hail The Queen Of The Pity Party

Taylor Hughes showcases her pity party era with latest single, "Fall Apart."

Embrace the pity party with pure xtc’s latest single, “Fall Apart.” Released earlier this month, the alt-pop artist’s latest release kicks off a series of short films that’ll unveil starting March 20, and see pure xtc continue her venture into the uncharted territory of her mind as she masters our post-pandemic world.

Collaborating with the masterful team of co-producer Bryan Czap and executive producer Walter Kazmier, and mastered by Mike Piacentini at Sony Entertainment’s Battery Studios, “Fall Apart,” aims for the high ground. But, is pure xtc’s latest effort just a stall in waiting? Or, does it prove to be the starting push over the long-winded hill? Let’s find out.

Sitting down with a new song by pure xtc mastermind Taylor Hughes is always an adventure. You never truly know what kind of journey this masterful storyteller is going to invite you on. “Fall Apart” commands the fragile attention spans of today and before you know it, you’re already on your tenth listen, singing, “unraveled, jaded and cracked down to my core” alongside the constant haunting of Taylor Hughes’ beautiful melodies.

Instrumentally, “Fall Apart” is your typical pure xtc experience. A relaxing spa day for the mind as I slowly broke down my inner slump, grasping each lyrical line acting as an escape rope from the mundane and dullness of the outside world. All while being whimsically carried away by the soothing beats and electronic atmosphere vibrating through my senses.

“Been ghostin’ all my friends/To fall apart again,” perfectly captures the attitude revolving around the rotting husk presented as the track’s story unravels gloriously. “Fall Apart” is pure xtc not taking prisoners, and further showcases 2024 as her year as she continues to chart her course in the stars.

Taylor Hughes continues to not miss, adding “Fall Apart” to her strong catalog of tunes as she transforms her dreams into reality from sharing the stage with the likes of FLETCHER and Dashboard Confessional to continuously being the top artist to keep watch of as this Baltimore native blows ships out of the water.

With a strong single like “Fall Apart” kicking things off, the other surprises pure xtc has planned for the remainder of the year can only continue to hit new heights.
