REVIEW: Bunny Alex Strips Back Fantasy With Her Latest Single, “Ugly Crying”

Bunny Alex breaks down the lies between fantasy and reality with her new single, "Ugly Crying."

Liverpool has a new, emerging unfiltered songstress that goes by the name Bunny Alex, and she’s ripping apart the threads between fantasy and reality with her latest heart-wrenching single, “Ugly Crying.”

While opening up about her new single, Bunny shares, “I wrote this song during a low point in my mental health. I felt insecure and scared, and endlessly scrolling on social media only made it worse. Writing this song, just me and my guitar, healed something in me.” A song that hopes to unravel the realistic feeling and pain that comes with heartbreak outside of the fantasy world that the online daydream promises.

So, does “Ugly Crying” manage to filter reality out of a promised fantasy? Let’s find out.

Not missing a beat of my rhythmic cycle of heartbeats, I was quietly transported into the world fabricating around the somber and beautifully haunting vocal delivery of Bunny Alex, grasping onto each note as it floated through my imagination, as I found myself captivated by familiar quarrels and distant memories of sorrow and fleeting realities. A smash grab of emotions as “Ugly Crying” paints the truthful reality that comes with the feeling of pain ripping you piece by piece.

“Ugly Crying” is painful yet beautiful. Relatable and broken. Full and empty. It’s a unique song that I’ve heard many a time over my life. A song that will get stuck in my inner iPod, if you will, that constantly shows itself when needed. I love the stripped-back vibe of the guitar and Bunny’s vocal notes; the delivery is solid and captivating, and listeners will be pulled in within moments as they relive their own fantasy world, beginning to break from the lies it’s been telling them.

“Ruin my whole reputation for you,” Bunny sings in the most vulnerable of ways as the curtain begins to shred, continuing with the haunting words, “I’m sure she’s sweet/But, I’m sweet as can be/What do you mean you won’t risk it for me?” It’s the choice of words and storytelling present that had me hooked while I had a little over a week to take in each second of Bunny Alex’s beautiful creation. I found myself with each new listen unraveling a little more of the track’s beautiful yet heartbreaking existence, and I have so many more repeats to go through.

Bunny Alex’s new single, “Ugly Crying,” broke me down into a mess on the side of the road in the best ways possible. Reminding me what it means when an artist is completely vulnerable and open, fully utilizing their expression through music as a gateway to healing. “Ugly Crying” is all of this and so much more once you sit back, throw on your headphones, and get lost in the day fog of your own emotions. I can’t wait to see what Bunny has up her sleeve next.

With more releases planned for 2026, including future performances being in the works, this year is already shaping up to be an amazing one in the world of Bunny Alex. And if you can’t get enough with just “Ugly Crying,” which is available to stream on your streaming platform of choice, you can also check out previous releases like “And I Spiral” and “Rollercoaster” among others.
