REVIEW: Jordan Anthony Opens Up With Vulnerable New Single “Lost In LA”

Jordan Anthony is baring his soul with his vulnerable new single, "Lost In LA."

Most of you might be familiar with Jordan Anthony from his run on season 22 of American Idol. But, don’t let his Top 14 success quickly put him into an American Idol-sized box because Jordan Anthony has so much more to say with his vulnerable new single, “Lost In LA.”

Following the success of his debut single, “Broken Love,” his new release explores the themes of loneliness and vulnerability that come with embarking on a personal journey. “Lost In LA” is filled with self-doubt, reflection, and a relatable quality that any listener picking up Jordan’s music for the first time can easily connect with.

So, does Jordan Anthony’s openness with listeners pay off? Or, is this rising star setting himself up to forever be lost within the City of Angels? Let’s find out.

When it comes to “Lost In LA,” I attempted to put myself into the same shoes as Jordan Anthony, that feeling of not knowing, the fear if the right decisions were made, the guilt of leaving, and the glimmer of hope that everything will work out ended up building the perfect playground for my senses to get lost in the somber yet beautiful melodies swirling through my ears.

“Lost In LA” tackles themes we’ve all felt, whether it’s starting a new job, going to a new school, where you no longer have the crutch of your friend group. It’s the single’s take on the pit that forms in your stomach that hooked me instantly. Jordan Anthony, in this vulnerable state, sets him apart from the forced glitz and glamor of the pop world today, instead opting for realism and diary entries.

I won’t sugarcoat it: Jordan isn’t by far the first artist to bring this type of song to life, nor will he be the last. But the fact that he’s willing to open up about his own struggles this early in his rising career earns him praise.

The subtlety of the guitar, the big thematic feeling of the chorus as he loses himself with the lyrics, “Sometimes I want to escape/Yeah, I’ll admit I’m afraid/Of giving everything with nothing left to lose,” it’s all so beautifully tragic and further brings Jordan into his own outside the title of just being an “American Idol guy.” This new release hits hard, will make quite a few cry, and will have many singing along as they hit repeat.

So, to answer my prior question, I do feel like Jordan Anthony’s openness and letting his fans and new listeners behind the curtain will pay off in a big way as “Lost In LA” stands out as a diamond among the fake smiles of the Los Angeles backdrop. It’s a strong release that I’ve had on repeat for the last week that I hope shines even further once brought to the live stage, where I believe it can shine even brighter.

While “Lost In LA” can be streamed across your streaming service of choice right this very second, Jordan Anthony is currently hard at work putting together his forthcoming EP that hopes to continue the vulnerability and raw feeling that this new single has opened up.
